Five things to do in Bournemouth

Escape to the beach this Autumn.

Posted: Friday 6th October 2017

As Autumn gets underway, we’ve created this handy guide to give you plenty of inspiration when holidaying at Beach Lodges in the coming months.

Wild Walks
Don your walking boots and head for some bracing walks along our stunning coast. Hengistbury Head is only an hour walk away from the Lodges, here you’ll be able to enjoy amazing views of the Isle of Wight and Solent before heading to the Hikers Café for a delicious Afternoon Tea. If you would like to go further afield, we can highly recommend the Jurassic Coastal Path, enjoy the spectacular scenery and maybe find a fossil or two along the way.

Surfs Up
Now’s the perfect time to get suited and booted and ride some waves. Hire your kit or book a lesson with Alex and the team at Surf Steps.

Kick up some leaves
Explore one of Bournemouth’s Victorian gardens and crunch through the leaves and enjoy the Autumn colours. The nearby Boscombe Chine Gardens is one of our favourites. For more Autumn adventures take a short car journey into the New Forest and explore the ancient woodlands and heathlands.

Storm watching
Settle down for some storm watching with a hot chocolate (full works of course!). Our top spot is Urban Reef offering panoramic views of the bay or your Beach Lodge deck.

Stargazing
Local “Starman” Richard’s top tip is to get comfy on your Lodge deck and wait for the skies to light up.  The clear Autumn skies provide a great show.  You'll be able to see the Square of Pegasus high in the south east. Slightly above and to the right of this, despite its name, you will still be able to see the distinctive Summer Triangle well into Autumn. This is a pattern of three bright stars from three different constellations. Don’t forget to look for satellites. There are lots of them up there, and they look like moving stars. Look for them for the first two or three hours after sunset. And check heavens-above.com to see if the Space Station is coming over.
